School Improvement Plan

Poplar Bank P.S. is committed to supporting the Board’s literacy focus under the three Board focus areas of Quality Schools, Building Family and Community Capacity and Quality Workplaces.
The following is an outline of our school’s Plan for Continuous Improvement including highlights of some of the strategies to support student achievement.

  • Our school’s focus for curriculum implementation and student learning is literacy - all students can demonstrate success, particularly in the areas of reading and writing. Attention will be given to addressing the needs of our at-risk learners. As a staff, we will explore the use of portfolios as a means of capturing evidence of success as well as areas of need for students. Our school is also part of the Literacy Collaborative project and we have a team of teachers learning about Instructional Intelligences. In year 1 of our plan, resources will be concentrated on the Primary Division, year 2 – Junior and year 3 – Intermediate.
  • Our school’s focus for effective schools is to promote a comfortable and safe climate that supports student learning. By fostering a pro-social approach based on the Second Step program, we aim to establish a fair and consistent code of conduct. Our school motto, Poplar Bank Pride, serves as the reference point for student recognition.
  • Our school’s focus for parental and community involvement is to provide better communication with all school partners. We aim to link fundraising activities to the school plan. We also hope to build community capacity through volunteerism that supports school projects such as the snack program, extracurricular activities, etc.
